2008 Nashville Lawn & Garden Show - Best Environmental Design Award!
Cheveallier Design Studio teamed with Gardens of Babylon and Mountain River Builders to design and build a garden exhibit at the 2008 Nashville Lawn & Garden Show. This year’s show theme was “It’s Easy To Be Green”. Over 20 local design and landscape companies competed in the competition this year. When the dust settled and the winners were announced, the joint efforts of Cheveallier Design Studio, Gardens of Babylon and Mountain River Builders had paid off. The exhibit entitled “Simply Green” won the Alice Ann Chapman environmental design award, an honor bestowed by the Horticulture Association of Tennessee. For those of you who are familiar with this dynamic team this should be of no surprise. Whether individually or as a team these folks have been leading the way in sustainable landscaping even before it was considered the “cool thing to do”. The Simply Green exhibit showcased sustainable landscaping practices such as Green Roofs, pervious paving techniques, native & drought tolerant plants, edible plants, rain harvesting, organic gardening techniques and live/vegetated retaining wall and erosion control products. All of which were implemented in a manner which illustrated that even the average home owner can afford to have a beautifully landscaped yard and still be environmentally conscious. Of even greater importance is that when the show is over, the judges aren’t looking and the exhibits are gone, this team of green designers and builders will still be practicing what they preach on a site near you. |
